Analisis Kinerja Bidan Puskesmas Dalam Pelayanan Antenatal di Bengkulu Selatan
Background The high maternal mortality rate in Indonesia has become an important issue that needs to be handled seriously. The Indonesia Demographic and
Health Survey (SDKI) in 2002 showed the maternal mortality rate was 307 per 100,000 living birth. In South Bengkulu District itself, the maternal mortality total reached 17 pregnant mothers in the year of 2004. One of the efforts conducted to decrease the maternal mortality rate was to encourage pregnant mothers to visit places which provide health services, especially health centers. In South Bengkulu District, the percentage of fourth visit of antenatal care (K4) in the year of 2004 was 72.2%, which was in fact under the targeted percentage of 85%. Same thing happened to the percentage of deliveries assisted by health officers which was only achieved 65.6%, under the targeted percentage of 77%.

Objective The objective of this research was to figure out the midwives’ performance in antenatal care and factors related to the performance in the District of South Bengkulu.
Methods This research was an analytical research, with cross sectional design, using quantitative and qualitative methods. The research population was health center midwives, with total sample of 85 midwives. The variables employed in this research were factors related to midwives’ performance, such as work expectations, feedbacks from superiors, motivation and incentives, environment and equipments, also knowledge. The research instruments were questionnaires and in-depth interview guide. Quantitative data were analyzed statistically, using Pearson product moment and multiple regression tests.
Result. Most of midwives’ performance in antenatal care were categorized as average (60%). Meanwhile the result of Pearson product moment test showed there were significant correlations between feedbacks from superiors, motivation and incentives, also knowledge and skill with midwives’ performance in antenatal care (p<0.05), with strength of relations in moderate level (r=0.282 for feedbacks from superiors, r=0.299 for motivation and incentives, and r=0.296 for knowledge). On the other hand, there were no significant correlations between work expectations also environment and equipments with midwives’ performance in antenatal care (p>0.05). From all variables, knowledge became the most dominant factors (β=0.316).
Conclusion The health center midwives’ performance in antenatal care in the District of South Bengkulu was categorized as average. Meanwhile, the dominant factors related to the midwives’ performance were knowledge.
