Program Penempatan Bidan Di Desa Di Indonesia dan Tingkat Pemanfaatan Pelayanan Kesehatan Ibu dan Anak
(Village Midwife Placement Program in Indonesia and the level of utilization of Maternal and Child Health Services)
The Indonesian government has promoted a program of village midwives (Bidan Desa) to bring modern care within easy reach of rural women. The program was initiated in response to the high and stagnant levels of infant and maternal mortality in the late 1980s. This study aims to examine the development
of the midwives placement program throuhgt Indonesia and the utilization of midwivery services by woman in rural areas. The study shows that placement of village midwives has failed to meet the target. Some provinces have reached the target, but other provinces, especially in the eastern part of Indonesia still need more midwives to be assigned in the villages. Further, utilization of midwives services is also still now. In rural areas, especially in the eastern part of Indonesia, women are likely to seek antenatal care form traditional birth attendants and the traditional birth attendants still have a very important role in delivery assistance.
